About Pextenement Organic Cheese Company

Founded in 2008, the Pextenement Cheese Company aims to produce high quality handmade cheeses solely from the organic milk produced by Pextenement Farm.

The Cheese Company is situated in Calderdale, West Yorkshire at Pextenement Farm, high on the hillside at Eastwood above Todmorden (2.2miles) and Hebden Bridge (3.2miles).  Go to the Location tab to view our Google Map.

The first Pextenement Cheeses were available in the shops in mid-August 2009 following a lengthy process to return the 17th Century Grade II listed barn at Pextenement Farm to it's original use as a dairy.  The work was partly funded by a European Union Rural Business Startup Grant (with the help of Growing Routes, Business Link and Yorkshire Forward).

Pextenement Cheese Company supports Incredible Edible Todmorden and Totally Locally Calderdale.

Raised or conducted without the use of drugs, hormones, or synthetic chemicals.  Simple healthful, and close to nature. We only use our own certified organic milk produced here at Pextenement Farm. Our cheeses are certified Organic with Organic Farmers and Growers.

Cheesemaking is Art

  • When all is said and done, cheese is simply a way to preserve milk for later use, and that is why it was originally made.  This need for preservation has given way nowadays to what can only be described as an art form.
  • Of all dairy foods, perhaps none provides so much fascination as cheese.  The sheer number of cheeses is enormous.  The potential for new ones is almost as vast - unique varieties are constantly being developed around the world, and more importantly, are now being developed here in Todmorden at Pextenement Cheese.
